Calhoun Community College Math Science CIS Building

Year Completed: 2016

Project Location: Huntsville, AL

Project Size: 90,000 Sqft New Construction

Construction Cost: $21,500,000

Since its last renovation in 1996, the Huntsville campus of Calhoun Community College has undergone a tremendous increase in enrollment, especially in the studies of computer and physical science. In 2013, the decision was made to construct a new Math, Science and Computer Sciences building as the centerpiece of the campus, along with renovating the current facility.

The design of the new three-story, 90,000 square foot classroom building creates a new, modern focal point for the College and gives them a new and distinct identity which incorporates both modern and traditional features. Generous use of brick and stone provide a sense of permanence to the campus that previously did not exist. Addressing those traveling on Interstate 565, the new building provides expansive views of the Space and Rocket Center and its Saturn V rocket a short distance away. The placement of the new building relative to the existing one creates two sides of a traditional quad which can be used for outdoor events and graduations.
