Agape Church - Scottsboro
Year Completed: 2012
Project Size: 35,000 Sqft
Chapman Sisson Architects was selected to develop a master
plan and initial phase worship center for Agape Baptist Church,
which was previously located in a suburban retail center. The
quickly growing congregation sought a home of their own that
would allow for plenty of room for development and expansion.
Working with the church building team, Chapman Sisson
Architects designed a new two story worship facility with
education, administration, and fellowship space that reflected
the contemporary style of the church’s character. The nontraditional
appearance of the exterior design of Agape Baptist
Church is comparable to a high-end retail establishment and
is an extension of the church’s desire to reach out to those who
may have been turned off by a more traditional church setting.
One of the challenges that the building team faced was
relocating the programmed spaces from the existing facility,
and incorporating them into the new building in a cost effective
manner. To achieve this, volunteer labor supplied by a group
called Campers on Mission was utilized to erect metal studs
and drywall on the project.
