Calhoun Community College - Math, Science, and CIS Building

Year Completed: 2016
Project Size: 90,000 Sqft

The Huntsville campus of Calhoun Community College has undergone a tremendous increase in enrollment, especially in the computer and physical sciences. The design of this new three-story 90,000 square foot classroom building creates a new, modern focal point for the College and gives them a new and distinct identity incorporating both modern and traditional features. Generous use of brick and stone provide a sense of permanence to the facility that currently does not exist. Addressing those traveling on Interstate 565 to the south, the new building provides expansive views of the Space and Rocket Center and Saturn V rocket a short distance away. The placement of the new building, relative the the existing one, creates two sides of a traditional quad which will be used for outdoor events and graduations. In addition, the new outdoor spaces will encourage students to spend more time on campus.
