First Stop
Year Completed: 2023
Project Size: 8,432 sqft
First Stop connects Huntsville homeless with critical services and support while working to enable them to move into sustainable, independent living. This includes daily services such as community outreach and meals as well as committed case management for individuals. Their new 8,400 square foot facility increased their existing capacity nearly three-fold, allowing them to address the needs of the homeless population more effectively in Huntsville.
The project is located adjacent to one of the city's major areas of homelessness and serves as a beacon for those seeking help. The extensive use of brick and glass gives a professional and dignified appearance and seeks to serve as a catalyst for future growth in the area. Inside, the lobby welcomes new and existing clients to the building before ushering them towards either of the two major missions of First Stop. Case management and outreach offices represent the bulk of First Stops services in outlining a path from homelessness to independent living. The remainder of the first floor is a commercial warming kitchen and cafeteria providing seating for up to 120 clients to dine on breakfast or lunch. The new facility enables First Stop to continue their mission of serving Huntsville's most vulnerable population and acts as a place that people can easily find in their time of need.
